The Cancer Zodiac sign is based on the myth of Crios, a giant crab from Greek mythology. There are two different myths surrounding the crab. In one of them, Crios was tasked by Poseidon (the god of the sea) to guard his sea nymphs. Demonstrating immense strength and loyalty, Crios diligently fulfilled his duty, even though it crippled him. 

His commitment was so profound that Poseidon relieved him from his pain and granted him immortality. In honor of his service, Crios was immortalized as the constellation for the Cancer zodiac sign.
