The Aries Zodiac sign got its name and symbol from the myth of Phrixus. According to Greek mythology, Phrixus and his twin, Helle, were saved from their stepmother’s plot to kill them by a divine golden ram sent by his birth mother, Nephele. 

Even though his twin didn’t make the journey, Phrixus rode this ram to safety in Colchis, where he sacrificed it to the god Zeus out of gratitude. The ram’s Golden Fleece became a legendary object, and the ram itself was immortalized by the ancient Greeks as the constellation Aries.
